Q: What is a forwarding email address? Can I still send and receive email from it?
A: Yes! Your @muri.ca email address will forward to the email address you give us when signing up. You'll receive mail wherever you get mail there. Most providers (including Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail, and probably more) support doing this. Recipients will see mail as coming from your @muri.ca email address even though you're sending through your normal webmail service.
Q: Help! I emailed myself and my @muri.ca email address isn't working.
A: Some providers, including Gmail, do not allow you to email yourself unless you do it directly. Get a friend to send an email to your @muri.ca email address and if it's still having problems, shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Q: What's the difference between @muri.ca and @a.muri.ca?
A: Nothing! Your email address will work for both, and there's no extra fees or charges. You can choose which one to use, and switch back and forth at any time. In fact, as a bonus for reading the FAQ, I'll tell you that @amuri.ca works too :P
Q: Will you ever share my email address? Do you guarantee availability? Can I use my email address for anything?
A: muri.ca will never share your email address with anyone. We cannot guarantee availability of forwarding service, but we have thoroughly tested our systems and don't expect any problems! You're welcome to use your email for anything so long as it doesn't cause extreme stress on our systems. We reserve the right to shut off your account in the event of abuse.
Q: A red X shows up when I put in my username. Why?
A: Either your username is invalid, or it's already been taken. Valid usernames contain only alphanumeric characters, plus underscore and period. An address must start and end with alphanumeric characters (so email@example.com is not valid), and no two underscores or periods can be next to each other (so user..firstname.lastname@example.org is not valid).
Q: I think I signed up, but I'm not sure, and if I enter my username now, I get an X.
A: Your signup probably went through! Email us at email@example.com and we'll get it sorted out ASAP.
Q: How long does it take for my email address to be activated?
A: It should be instant! If there's a problem, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll get it sorted out immediately.
Q: Why can I only pay for 10 years? Will this end after that?
A: Assuming nothing goes wrong, this can go on for longer than 10 years! That said, we don't want to take your money in case something is wildly different in 10 years. We'll let you know via email when it's time to renew, and we'll have a process in place to do it then.
Q: Can I add more years to my address?
A: We don't have that functionality built in quite yet, but we're working on it! In the meantime, email us at email@example.com and we'll make it happen.
Q: How much does this cost?
A: An email address costs $2/year for the first five years, and if you buy in bulk, then $1/year for up to another 5 years. When you buy a username, you get both firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com (plus any domains we add in the future!).
Q: Do you store my credit card information?
A: Nope! We use Stripe or PayPal for secure payment processing. We never see your credit card information.
